Why CNN is the Devil (in disguise)
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn’t exist.
We all know that Fox News is trash. Murdoch, the owner of Fox, has recently added to his evil empire through the acquisition of the WSJ. He has openly stated that he wants to turn the media giant into a counterpoint to combat the NYTimes’ liberal leanings. Rupert Murdoch is the devil – undisguised.
But less has been stated about CNN’s overtly bias and insidious coverage of the Democratic race this year – especially as it pertains to minority voting patterns. Apparently, this year everyone is an expert on the Latino and Asian vote. An expert in pejorative journalism that is. An expert in crafting a convenient tail of racism to impose CNN’s own biased, pro-Obama (not his fault) narrative on the political race.
Let’s take a look:
Really? Are we really going to walk into Chinatown and ask several random Asian immigrants and a 4th generation teenager questions and call that journalism? And wait, Asians don’t like change and that’s why these particular Asians were voting for a Democratic candidate and not a Republican one? I’m failing to understand the logic…(but that would be assuming that there is some.)
Let me make this a little more clear to those of you who watched the video and still didn’t see what I saw. It’s as if “the best political team on TV” did an “analysis” on the black vote and went to down to the “hood” to interview 4 kids on a street corner drinking malt liquor. It’s maddening.
Defending my fellow immigrants
First, let’s resist the urge of equating adeptness of language with intelligence. Just because someone has a hard time articulating their thoughts in their non-native language doesn’t mean that they are stupid. Yes, some of us can remember our trips to Spain and how uncomfortable it was to fumble through the most of basic phrases. Now, try doing that for years on end and you can barely start to understand the difficulties of assimilating to a new country.
This one is personal for me. (What isn’t?) I’ve witnessed people being overtly condescending and “talk down” to my mom. And I’ve had the tables turned on me, when I spent a year and half in her shoes attempting to be articulate in Vietnamese. It’s hard. Apparently, the scientists are right. Language is hard-wired in your brain before the age of 5 and as much as you try to reprogram, the results are sometimes underwhelming.
The analysis CNN didn’t bother doing
- Asian American Democrats in California voted 3 to 1 in favor of Hillary.
- Young Asian American voters (who are arguably less racist than their parents) voted 2 to 1 in favor of Hillary in California.
I’m not going to address the reason why Hillary won the Asian vote in this post, but if you want to read my letter to the editor of Salon.com on this topic, go here: Letter to the Editor
On to defending the Asian electorate as not ignorant/racist to my “supposedly” liberal friends.
Here’s a start:
- One-third of Asian voters are native citizens. Yes, remember us Americans? The ones who were born here and grew up just like you.
- Asian Amercan voters are more educated than white voters.
- Asian Amercian voters are more affluent than white voters.
This is not to say Asian American voters are smarter than other voters (well, it is on one of my vindictive days
). This is just to say, we’re not as dumb or as ignorant as CNN would like to portray us.
Asian Americans are used to being an after thought in American culture and politics. This post is not a plea for attention or any attempt of a solicitation for an apology. (We’re Asians. No one cares. We get it.) But it is an indictment of our mainstream media – of journalists that purport to represent us, all of us, fairly and objectively.
Regardless of our differences, we need to be weary of how our perceptions are being cajoled by the media. We need to be conscious of the devil’s scripted influences and cry foul play for ourselves and on behalf of others. For if not, we are half witted participants in the devil’s doings.

Are you talking about the same CNN who made an agreement with Saddam Hussien to not report the truth so that they could keep their Baghdad office open?
They are the devil? Yeah, no sh*t. Welcome to reality.
I get reality, Marshall. I just wish we would do something about it vs. being resigned to the mediocre crap that they call the news these days. I don’t know. Something akin to the BBC in the UK.
On a happy note, thanks for being the second non-friend commenter.
